The Bioscience, Environmental and Agricultural Alliance (BEAA) is directed by the Science Steering Group.  This group reports into the management structures overseeing all of the joint activities between Bangor and Aberystwyth under their Strategic Alliance.  Members of the Steering Group and links to their personal webpages are below:

 

  

Prof Chris Thomas

Prof. Thomas joined Aberystwyth in 2007 as Professor of Zoology in the Centre for Integrated Research in the Rural Environment (CIRRE), (a joint Research Centre with Bangor University) having previously held research positions at Durham and Glasgow.  His personal research interests are focused in Spatial Ecology including disease transmission vectors, climate change impacts and spatial scaling.

Prof. Colin Jago

Research

Prof. Jago has worked at Bangor University since 1977 and over recent years has had a significant impact on the success of the research strategies and activities of the University.  He has extensive experience leading research grants and activities including as a co-Director of the Centre for Catchment and Coastal Research, a joint Research Centre with Aberystwyth University.  His personal research interests encompass the sedimentary processes of continental margins from estuaries to continental slopes.

Prof. John Healey

Co-Director of the Centre for Integrated Research in the Rural Environment

Bangor University

Professor Healey’s role includes research leadership both within Bangor University and in joint programmes with Aberystwyth University.   His own research focuses on the ecology and sustainable management of forests and agroforestry systems, with particular emphasis on ecosystem services, soils, restoration, biodiversity conservation and climate change mitigation.

Prof. Jamie Newbold

Co-Director of the Centre for Integrated Research in the Rural Environment

Director of Research and Enterprise, of the Institute for Biological, Environmental and Rural Sciences,

Aberystwyth University

Prof. Newbold, is Professor of Animal Science at Aberystwyth with particular research interests in animal nutrition and gut microbiology and is Leader of the Animal & Microbial Sciences Research Division. He leads the Research and Enterprise Strategy for IBERS since and has been instrumental in securing many research and enterprise grants he has also led in many collaborative initiatives between Aberystwyth and Bangor Universities.

Dr Garry Reid

Dr Reid has been involved with the BEAA programme since its inception.  Formerly College Manager for the College of Natural Sciences Garry has lead the operational activities of the College for since the college structure was introduced, supporting the Research, Teaching and administrative agendas.  More recently he has taken the role of Director of the University’s Research and Enterprise Office, leading these activities for Bangor.

 

 

 

Gary Reed

Head of the Aberystwyth-Bangor Strategic Alliance

Director of Research, Business and Innovation at Aberystwyth, Gary has lead collaborative activities between Aberystwyth and Bangor Universities since 2007 before taking the role of Head of the Research Office in 2010, and consequently Director of Research, Business and Innovation, a merger of the Research Office and Enterprise Office at Aberystwyth University.  Before joining Aberystwyth, Gary was a Management Academic at Loughborough University Business School and held the post of Director of Research – Centre for Automotive Management. Gary is also a qualified secondary school teacher and prior to that he worked in sales and sales management in the telecommunications industry working with blue chip clients.

 

 

 

Chris Drew

Deputy Head, Aberystwyth-Bangor Strategic Alliance

Chris takes the operational lead for the overall management of the Strategic Alliance between Aberystwyth and Bangor Universities.  He leads the activities of the office and supports the Executive teams of both Universities as they build the Alliance across Research, Learning and Teaching and Service teams.  He has formerly held responsibility for Technology Transfer activities at Bangor including significant experience in the protection of Intellectual Property, applied research grant capture and the management of strategic relationships.
